Our Cause

Family HomeStead exists to house homeless families and end homelessness for individual families in our program in the metro Denver area.

mom_2boysFamily HomeStead is not a shelter. For over 30 years, Family HomeStead has worked to provide safe, secure independent housing for homeless families with children. This enables families to have a place they can call home while they work to resolve their crisis of homelessness. With the assistance of case managers, parents deal with the circumstances and issues that caused their family to become homeless. They begin to develop a reliable income and work to find permanent housing.

Family HomeStead is the only Metro Denver agency to provide both emergency and transitional housing in individual units, as well as supportive case management, exclusively to homeless families with children.

  • 85% of our expenditures go to program services.
  • In 2008 we served 883 individuals and 250 families.
  • Fifty-six percent of client families are single-parent, female-headed households.
  • Eighty-one percent are racial and ethnic minorities.
  • Sixty-four of our clients are dependent children; 24 percent of all persons served are age five and under.

OUR PROCESS

  • Each family in our program lives in their own apartment to preserve the integrity of home life.
  • We develop individual case plans with each family appropriate to their strengths and goals.
  • We work actively with each parent to secure permanent housing, develop and maintain income, and increase their effectiveness as heads of household.
