ABOUT US
Family HomeStead's Mission
Family HomeStead exists to house homeless families and end
homelessness for individual families in our program in the
Metro Denver Area.
Our Programs
The Emergency Housing Program
accepts referrals from shelters, safehouses, and other homeless
service providers throughout the Denver Metro Area including
the Denver Department of Human Services, Brandon Center, the
Interfaith Hospitality Network, Samaritan House, the Colorado
Coalition for the Homeless and many others. For the first
30 days of a maximum 90-day period, an apartment is provided
without charge. Case managers develop an individualized case
plan with each family that helps them learn to live in independent
housing while the parents strive to develop a source of income,
begin the search for next-step housing, and deal with concerns
that are pertinent to their particular family. Case managers
provide resources and referrals as needed to help clients
achieve the goals outlined in their case plan.
The Transitional Housing Program
provides independent housing and case management for a maximum
period of six months and gives priority to families leaving
Family HomeStead’s Emergency Housing Program, shelters,
and safehouses. In most transitional families, the head-of-household
is employed full-time, in school full-time or a combination
of both. Individualized case plans identify and build on strengths;
describe areas of concern and appropriate measures to strengthen
those areas; and set goals for the time of the Family HomeStead
stay. Of primary importance is finding permanent housing as
well as developing and maintaining an income to support that
housing.
Because it is difficult for clients with limited income to
save the necessary funds to acquire long-term housing, Family
HomeStead offers families an incentive to complete our program
by providing an opportunity to apply for a grant payable to
their next landlord. The grant pays up to the amount of the
first month’s rent.
Bilingual Services
Family
HomeStead is committed to serving the needs
of monolingual Spanish-speaking families. Five out of our
nine staff members are conversant in Spanish, including administrative,
property, and case management personnel. Program documents
are available to clients in both English and Spanish. Ten
to 20 percent of the clients in our program speak primarily
Spanish.
