It all started when...
The HomeSteaders auxiliary was established in 1994 by a group of women with a heartfelt desire to assist Family HomeStead in furthering its mission, which is to assist homeless families to overcome the crisis of homelessness and to re-stabilize at a level of functioning that is optimal for them.
The founders, of the HomeSteaders auxiliary, whom we affectionately refer to as the “founding mothers” included Barbara Barnard, Margaret Garbe, Jodie Hohensee, Pat Long, Janet Manning, Mimi Stone and Judy Winston. The purpose of the auxiliary is to increase awareness and support for the services that are provided by Family HomeStead through fundraising events and community social gatherings. HomeSteaders hosted its very first “Valentine’s Dinner on February 5, 1996 at the Broker Restaurant. The “Valentine’s Dinner” grew rapidly and is known now as the “For the Love of Families” Annual Gala.
HomeSteaders has earned a fine reputation for hosting some of Denver’s most popular events including the annual LoDo Loft Tour, where attendees tour elegant lofts, then gather at a VIP reception that features local celebrities and entertainment. The “Bucket Brigade” and “Bare Necessities” social events have also grown in popularity with admission consisting of personal care products and house cleaning products that are shared with the families served through Family HomeStead’s Emergency Housing Program.
