VOLUNTEER
Volunteer Opportunities
Lift-a-Hammer
provides an opportunity for groups to work on an apartment
as a short-term or one-time experience. This could include
painting, cleaning, light maintenance, yard work, etc.
Adopt-a-Home
offers interested individuals or groups the opportunity to
financially sustain a housing unit for one year. Many Adopt-a-Home
sponsors choose to spend a day working on the unit as well.
This involvement includes a contribution of $3,500 to maintain
the housing unit. Many businesses, faith-based organizations,
and service groups participate in this opportunity.
Adopt-a-Family
attempts to meet the seasonal needs of client families such
as back-to-school basics and holiday gifts. Volunteer help
is needed in sorting donated items, wrapping gifts, making
phone calls, and shopping. Adopting a specific child or family
is an option that appeals to both individuals and groups.
The HomeSteaders
auxiliary is a support group that provides public awareness
about homelessness, conducts fundraisers and special events
and collects “bare necessities” for families entering
Family HomeStead’s Emergency Housing Program.
Bare Necessities,
a program initiated by HomeSteaders, provides personal care
products and cleaning supplies for clients entering emergency
housing. Please contact Family HomeStead before conducting
a Bare Necessities drive for a list of most needed items.
Special Events
volunteers help with special projects or fundraisers that
occur periodically throughout the year. This could mean helping
the HomeSteaders plan their yearly projects, staffing a booth
at the Apartment Association of Metro Denver Trade Show, hosting
an information gathering on Family HomeStead, etc.
Volunteer Staff
help in the office by assembling mailings, sorting gifts donated
through our Adopt-a-Family Project, filing, and helping wherever
the need arises. Volunteer staff opportunities are limited
and occur on an as needed basis.
Persons interested in more information
on the above opportunities please contact Judy Mugler, Family
HomeStead Director of Volunteers and Development, at (303)
623-6514.
